A pleasant diversion - www.rbc.net our daily bread
"Their "Christianity" is what author W. Waldo Beach calls "a pleasant weekend diversion."
But is that the kind of life Jesus calls us to? Beach says, "No amount of air-conditioning and pew-cushioning in the suburban church can cover over the hard truth that . . . discipleship is costly; that, for the faithful, there is always a cross to be carried. No one can understand Christianity to its depths who comes to it to enjoy it as a pleasant weekend diversion."
Being a Christian means that we know Jesus personally. We have received Him by faith as our Savior from sin, and we present ourselves to Him. We deny our will and choose His instead. He transforms our thinking, our values, and our priorities to reflect what is acceptable to God (Romans 12:1-2)."
many times.... i still fall into that. the fact that i enjoy fellowship more and forget the real reason why i'm in church in the 1st place.. geez. *sheepish* and when grouped with people we're not that familiar with.. we feel "sian". lol. yah.. that's life.. only Jesus can change our heart and attitudes...
Venassa my intern has truely been a blessing.. a very good test of my patience and to some certain extent how much is enough is enough? Adding color and frustrations to my working life, Venassa has been a great companion cos she's sitting right beside me. Recently found out that she's a percussionist.. how cool is that? never had a percussionist friend.. lol. she told me that in SP, it is necessary for all the percussionist to learn how to play the drums. Her favourite is the mallets. Beautiful instrument that has keys like the piano.. but the sound that comes out from the pipes.. wow.. :) hee.. like the melodic sound of the euphonium..
so we came to a topic.. and her comment.. drummers/percussionists are either "eccentric" or very emo. hahah.. i couldn't agree more. the drummers in band that i used to come across.. there was once i remembered the drummer in chinese high had long fringe so he used a red hair band to put his hair back. there's nothing wrong with a hairband really but red is a little too striking though.. perhaps his favourite color was red.. and back in TP band, the drummer had long hair too. from the school of design if i remembered correctly...
i wish.. life was as simple as it could be.. why must there be perversions in this world.. so much so that i have to look at some people differently and wonder if they are just out there to take advantage of you.. sigh.. teach me Lord.. to see through your eyes..
